Spike Lee Says ‘He Got Game 2′ Is Waiting On One Person

Basketball fans, get ready. The movie that we all grew up on is coming back for a sequel.

Long rumored for most of the season, Spike Lee confirmed to STASHED over the weekend that a He Got Game 2 is getting closer to production. “It’s not really a rumor anymore,” Spike said on the red carpet before the 2014 NBA All-Star Game. “We’ve just got to get it. Ray [Allen] wants to do it, I want to do it, Lala…I mean Rosario [Dawson] want’s to do it. We’ve just got to get Denzel [Washington] on board and I’ll write the script.”
In previous reports, Lee had been waiting on Dawson and Washington to confirm if they wanted to be on board with continuing the story of the relationship between basketball star Jesus Shuttlesworth and his imprisoned father, Jake. According to his talk with us, it seems as if there’s one actor down with one [big] actor left to go.
When asked if the He Got Game director has any young hoopers in mind to play Jesus’ kin, he says that there are no shortage of basketball players at his disposal. “I haven’t picked anyone [to play Jesus' son] yet, but every player in the league…every time I’m in the garden sitting in my seat they are like ‘yo, Spike come see me, come see me!” said the famed director.
Assuming that Denzel Washington agrees to reprise his role as Jake Shuttlesworth, who do you think would end up playing his grandson in the even the movie gets green lit? Kyrie Irving? John Wall? Maybe a younger superstar in college like Jabari Parker or Tyler Ennis? It’s all speculation for now, but basketball fans and movie buffs will have to sit on their hands for a little while for He Got Game 2.
