Meek Mill Suffers Surprising Setback, Jail Complications Intensify

Maybach Music Group’s Meek Mill will spend a little longer than he expected behind bars as new reports claim the Philadelphia rapper had a request to get out of jail denied heading into the weekend.

Despite having an emergency hearing granted, Meek’s legal team could not convince a judge to release him.

Meek Mill suffered a setback in his quest to get out of jail after a judge rejected his lawyers’ request for an emergency hearing yesterday. He has been jailed since July 11 for violating terms of his probation stemming from a 2009 drug and gun conviction. His lawyers filed a petition Thursday asking for the hearing within three days, in hopes of freeing the 27-year-old rapper – whose real name is Robert Williams. (Philly)
Maybach Music Group leader Rick Ross issued an open statement on Meek’s publicized legal woes last Saturday (July 12).

“I created MMG years ago, my desire was to create a space where the most talented artists in the world could be nurtured and supported. With that came a commitment. I vowed to support these artist, through the good and the bad. Every individual signed to MMG is not just an artist, they are my family. And with family you ride, or you die. Yesterday, my brother, Meek Mill ran into some unfortunate legal issues. It happens. However, his team, our team, will continue to execute Meek’s plan as close to schedule as possible.” (Statement)
