Anwan Glover AKA Big G AKA Slim Charles From The Wire Issues Statement About Stabbing

Anwan Glover, known to fans of HBO’s The Wire as “Slim Charles,” was assaulted and stabbed last night (early Sunday morning, August 3) in a Washington, DC nightclub. The actor was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Earlier today he released a statement.

According to a police report, Glover reported that he was on the second floor of Cafe Asia, a restaurant at 1720 I Street NW, when an unknown person punched him. He turned to face his assailant, and another person hit him on the back of the head, causing him to slip on the wet floor.

Glover said that he was then kicked multiple times. He heard someone shout, “He has a knife,” and felt a sharp pain in his right side.

He was treated for a laceration on the right side of his torso at George Washington University Hospital.
Glover, 41, is on the way to recovery, and issued the following statement via his Instagram:

As many of you are aware, i was involved in an incident last night. While supporting another band, at their show, I was involved in an altercation with some unknown people. While defending myself, I was stabbed. I was hospitalized and have been released. I am not a stranger to adversity and when shown hate, I’m going to spread love. I am recovering and will be back soon. My flesh may be stabbed but my spirit is unbreakable. I want to thank all of my fans, followers and friends for their inquiries, we’ll wishes, prayers and love. I love you all back and I’m always going to love my city. – G #FYI- I lost my phone and will get my new one tomorrow. Much love Anwan Big G Glover

Glover is founding member of the Backyard Band. The Go-Go band had performed earlier in the day at the 2014 Summer Spirit Festival in Columbia, Maryland.

Wishing Big G a speedy recovery. On another note, let’s celebrate Big G and how he’s moved DMV for years. But you out-of-towners won’t know nothing about this.
