Bun B To Run For Houston Mayor In 2015?

If Hip-Hop had an official elder statesman, Bernard “Bun B” Freeman would arguably be the top choice without any second guessing. Let’s face it: a large chunk of the heroes of rap’s 1980s Golden Age never found their stride when new era production and digital files dominated the scene.

Bun, along with the late Chad “Pimp C” Butler burst out of the gate as UGK in 1992 but when his rhyming partner caught an iron timeout with the law, the trillest O.G. took it upon himself not only to carry the torch for the legacy they built together but to also show the younger generation that age only slows you down if you allow it.

With his respect already commanded in full, Off The Kuff decided to explore the possibilities of Bun B running the city for real as a mayoral candidate in 2015. It’s not a presumptuous notion, seeing that he was recently the first Hip-Hop talent to conduct the Houston Symphony but how does The Bun feel about it himself?

In an email to OTK, the rapper stated, “Too many skeletons in the closet, lol.” Not for nothing, “big pimpin’” goes on in political offices all the time. Bun would fit right in.
The cheeky political website was just suggesting the Port Arthur native run for the mayoral office but J. Cole took things a million steps further in 2010 when he created the loosie record, “Bun B For President.” It was a sentiment felt by many and the then-rookie had the gall to come out and say it.

The Trill O.G. still has a cool 365 days to make up his mind on running for office put there is no question who would receive the popular vote should he choose to go forward on the idea.

wall

Paul Wall celebrated the release of new indie album #CheckSeason by performing to a sold out crowd at Williamsburg Music Hall in New York City last night. Maino damn sure doesn’t like Trinidad James for his comments about NY music but he does show Paul Wall love. Bun B and Mike Jones were also there to perform and hold down their fellow H-Town spitter.

Bun B Freestyle On Sway In The Morning Show

Bun B visited Sway In The Morning show on Shade 45 recently to talk about his new album The Epilogue. The discussed the collaborations on the CD, his thoughts on current Rap music scene, his teaching role at Rice University in Houston and more. The UGK MC also spit an off the top freestyle on the mic (at the 18 minute mark).
“A lot that we see in rap music, is being described in hip hop, everything that is rap music is not hip hop. An MC can be a rapper, a rapper can’t be an MC.”

Bun B

Bun B‘s new solo album, ‘Trill O.G.: The Epilogue,’ hits stores today, and Spotify is giving us fans a full stream of the project.

The album, which is the fourth and final installment in the Port Arthur, Texas rapper’s ‘Trill’ series, packs plenty of collabs across 14 tracks. Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, Raekwon, Big K.R.I.T., Devin The Dude, Royce Da 5’9″, Kirko Bangz, Trae Tha Truth, Z-Ro and Bun’s late UGK partner Pimp C (by way of previously recorded vocals) all make appearances.

‘Trill O.G.: ‘The Epilogue’ is a compilation of the best leftover material that didn’t make his 2010 LP, ‘Trill OG,’ Bun told Rap Radar last month. The release of this new effort marks the return of the storied southern rap label, Rap-A-Lot Records — the company secured a distribution deal with Sony RED in August.

Pick up your copy of ‘Trill O.G.: The Epilogue’ on iTunes or Amazon now.

Bun B Announces New Album

Looks like this is Uncle Bun's final lap. Bun B’s opening the vault and releasing The Epilogue on November 12th. The album will consist of unreleased music recorded during Trill O.G. sessions. Features will include 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Kirko Bangz, Big K.R.I.T., Raekwon, Z-Ro and Devin The Dude. Says Bun:
It’s a lot of good music that either didn’t fit the format of the last album or that we decided to save for another project. I sat down with my long time business partner and Rap-A-Lot CEO James Prince to review the music that we had and quickly came up with an outstanding track list. The Epilogue is the perfect opportunity to release some great material to the fans and a proper final chapter for the trill-ogy. Good music is timeless.
