Last week the New Orleans district attorney was given 10 days to decide whether or not to charge former NFL star Darren Sharper with sexual assault or he would be released on the $1 million bail already paid stemming from rape charges filed against him in L.A.Though the deadline has come and gone Darren is still behind bars because of new rape charges filed against him in Arizona.
Yesterday Darren ordered to remain in jail until his next hearing set for March 24.
The next day Sharper was also without a job as well. The NFL Network fired him almost as soon as he surrendered. Sharper had worked as an analyst for them upon leaving the NFL. However, he was suspended indefinitely without pay following an arrest for drug possession in January of this year.
The former New Orleans Saints player surrendered at his attorney’s office to LAPD detectives. Police said he is being detained on the fugitive warrant from New Orleans.
In addition to Sharper, detectives and investigators with the Orleans Parish district attorney’s office obtained an arrest warrant for 26-year-old Eric Nunez, described as an acquaintance of the former football player.
Sharper is now accused of raping at least eight women and committing sexual battery against a woman in Miami.
New Orleans police had previously said they were investigating at least one rape allegation against Sharper.
Sharper is also being investigated for sexual assaults in Las Vegas and Tempe, Ariz.
We believe in innocent until proven guilty as much as the next man or woman. But Darren Sharper has some serious explaining to do.
The new accuser’s story sounds just like the others … she and some friends met Sharper at a Miami nightclub on September 27, they drank, they went back to his condo.
According to the police report, obtained by TMZ Sports, the woman says she was “extremely intoxicated when she arrived to his condo.” She eventually went to Sharper’s bedroom with him and closed the door.
The report says … sometime later, two witnesses heard the accuser telling Sharper, “No no I don’t want to.”
The witnesses reportedly entered the room “attempting to take [her] to her residence” — but the alleged victim did not go and drunkenly told the witnesses she “wanted to sleep.”
The next morning, the alleged victim claims she woke up with Sharper having sex with her, sans condom.
The woman says she immediately went to a doctor where she received treatment but did not file a police report … until several months later, when she saw a news report about Sharper being arrested for allegedly raping 2 women in Los Angeles.
According to the police report, taken on January 19th (one day after Sharper’s arrest) the woman told police she went to Miami Beach police because she wanted to “clear her conscience.”
Darren appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday where he was charged with two counts of rape by use of drugs, four counts of furnishing a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
During his bail hearing the prosecutor filed a motion to have Darren’s bail increased to $10 million and disclosed he was under investigation for drugging and raping at least five other women, two of them in one night.

After conferring with police in other jurisdictions, Maccharella said in the bail motion that the first assault followed an event for New Orleans Saints football players on Sept. 22, 2013.
Maccharella said he was told a woman went to a New Orleans bar with Sharper, consumed an alcoholic beverage provided by him and blacked out. She awoke the next morning while being sexually assaulted, the bail motion stated, noting that an exam later showed Sharper’s DNA was present.
The Los Angeles charges were based on incidents on Oct. 30, 2013, and Jan. 14, 2014, beginning at a West Hollywood nightclub. Sharper allegedly met two women each time, invited them to a party then said he had to stop at his hotel.
In the October incident, each woman was given a shot of an alcoholic beverage before blacking out, and one later awoke to find the other being sexually assaulted, the charging documents state.
In January, a woman awoke and suspected she had been assaulted, the documents state.
Similar scenarios played out on Jan. 15 in Las Vegas and on Nov. 20, 2013, in Arizona, the bail motion states.
Court documents indicate Darren drugged his dates with Ambien and morphine. The next court date is scheduled for Feb. 20.
Darren Sharper is facing 30 years in state prison if convicted on the charges in L.A..
Law enforcement sources tell us … the 38-year-old was arrested on Friday — and he’s been linked to 2 sexual assaults … one that occurred in Oct. 2013 and the other in January 2014.
The identity of the alleged victim or victims has not been released.
Sharper was booked at an L.A. jail — and was released on $200k bail.
Sharper — a hard-hitting safety who played for the Packers, Vikings and Saints — is currently an analyst for the NFL Network.
