Nas Diversifies His Bonds With Latest Power Move, Joins NFL Superstars

Music mogul Nas is showing off the power of a dollar after reportedly investing into a concert ticket search engine called SeatGeek, which has raised nearly $40 million.

Details of Nasty Nas’ involvement and other high-profile investors like Super Bowl-winning quarterback Peyton Manning has surfaced this week.
Concert ticket search engine SeatGeek announced on Thursday that it has raised $35 million in a series B round of funding led by Accel Partners. Other investors in the round include rapper Nas, NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning and Causeway Media Partners, a sports investment fund led by Boston Celtics CEO Wyc Grousbeck. The company plans to use the money to help hire new talent and expand on its products and marketing, with a particular focus on mobile. (Billboard)

A few months ago, the rap veteran teamed up with a technology company.
Tech has a serious diversity problem — so General Assembly (GA), the New York City private vocational school for programming and engineering, is now opening an “Opportunity Fund” to give scholarships to women, veterans, African-Americans and Latinos. The first contributors to the fund are Google, Microsoft, Hirepurpose and Nas. Yes, rapper and recording artist Nas, the man who brought us “Illmatic.” The partnership with Nas began when he met GA cofounder Matt Brimer at SXSW, but Nas isn’t the only media figure to approach GA about these kinds of programs. New Video: Nas “Represent”

Screen Shot 2014-07-15 at 1.27.35 PM

It’s been 20 years in the making, but Nas has finally released a video for track nine off Illmatic. Unlike the album though, the video isn’t as groundbreaking. Directed by Jason Goldwatch and contest winner Brian Katz, the clip compounds previous Nas videos with the silent film The Thief Of Baghdad . Bad representation all around.

Nas Talks Producers On Next Album

nas-rapradar

Although Nas recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of his debut, he’s got a new album on the way. Speaking with NPR, he says that he has began working with Swizz Beatz, No I.D. and hopes to finish what he has already started with Timbaland.

“I started working with , I want to say a year and a half ago. I think it was the same year I dropped my last album, Life is Good. I started with Tim and it felt really powerful; it felt like it was really powerful. And I stepped back from it. Tim’s like, “What are you doing?” and I’m like, “I just need a minute to like — I just need a minute to take it all in, just live a little and enjoy day-by-day stuff and daily stuff I’m doing.” It’s just — I didn’t want to go back in the studio that quick. I felt like I needed to be inspired.”

‘I talked to Swizz, and we went through joints. And No I.D. and Timbaland, you know. This the only interview I’ma talk about it. Cause I know once this comes out, people might ask me about the record and, man, I just want to finish it and get it done.”

The 13th annual Tribeca Film Festival kicked off last night at the Beacon Theatre in NYC with the premiere of the Nas documentary, Time Is Illmatic. Festival co-founder and Oscar winner Robert De Niro introduced the film and admitted he was 20 years too removed to listen to hip-hop. Would’ve been a nice touch if Esco sported his pink getup from the “Street Dreams” video.

After premiering the documentary, Nas hit the stage and performed Illmatic in its entirety. Tickets for the film’s viewing can be purchased here. Illmatic XX in stores now.

Nas’ Baby Mama: “Pay Up Or Face Lockup!”

Nas’ baby mama has an ultimatum … pay your back child support or your sorry ass is going to jail.

Carmen Bryan filed legal docs claiming Nas — real name Nasir Jones — owes her more than 11K in back child support for his 19-year-old daughter, Destiny.

Bryan labels Nas a “repeat criminal non supporter” and says he’s intentionally screwing over his daughter by refusing to pay her college tuition and her medical bills.
Bryan wants Nas cited for contempt … translation, the slammer.

Nas: ‘Time Is Illmatic’ (Documentary Teaser Video)

The Tribeca Film Festival announced today that Nas’ upcoming documentary film Time Is Illmatic will be opening the festival this year which is taking place in New York April 16 to 27. The documentary is directed by multimedia artist One9, written by Erik Parker, and produced by One9, Parker, and Anthony Saleh. The movie will premeire a day after Nas will release a special 20th anniversary edition of his landmark debut album Illmatic via Sony legacy.

Sony:
Time Is Illmatic traces Nas’s influences and the insurmountable odds he faced in creating the greatest work of music from hip-hop’s second golden era. The film tracks the musical legacy of the Jones family — handed down to Nas from his jazz musician father, Olu Dara, the support of his Queensbridge neighborhood crew, and the loyalty of his younger brother Jabari “Jungle” Fret. Twenty years after its release, Illmatic is widely recognized as a hip-hop benchmark that encapsulates the sociopolitical outlook, enduring spirit, and collective angst of a generation of young men searching for their voice in America. Time Is Illmatic is supported by The Ford Foundation’s Just Films and Tribeca Film Institute’s Tribeca All Access program.

Nas & Cam’Ron Reconcile

4183f51499ad11e394b70a1cf42a31d4_8

One of hip-hop’s most storied beefs has finally come to a close. Earlier, Cam’Ron posted a picture with him and former rival, Nas. If you remember, Esco called out Cam’Ron during his infamous Power 105.1 tirade. The Dips later responded with a series of diss songs and this classic diatribe. New York, stand up! Miss Info has the backstory below.

According to my source, Nas and Cam saw each other, got to talking without any awkwardness or old tension. The photo wasn’t forced. Respect all around. And the best part, there was even talk of future collaboration.

Maybe that was just polite lip service but maybe, if we’re lucky, there will be a Killa x Godson Dipset x Bravehearts song someday.
