Redskins QB Kirk Cousins Has NOT Requested A Trade

Backup Quarterback Kirk Cousins hasn’t requested a trade from the Washington Redskins, but would however, welcome an opportunity to go elsewhere and start in the NFL if the opportunity arose, a person with knowledge of the situation said.

That stance held by Cousins is the same that he has held since the Redskins selected him in the fourth round of the 2012 draft — the same year that they took Robert Griffin III second overall.

ESPN reported Sunday morning that Cousins had informed the Redskins that he was open to being traded. But a person with knowledge of the situation said that the quarterback has not made any demands for a trade. At the same time, Cousins has the goal of starting in the NFL, and he knows that barring injury to Griffin, that goal isn’t possible with the Redskins. And so, if a trade did present itself, Cousins would embrace that situation.

The person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that Cousins isn’t so desperate to be traded that he would want to be in a bad situation just so he could start. Instead, he would likely rather wait another two years and then go elsewhere as a free agent.

Cousins has conveyed his stance to Redskins officials on more than one occasion, and had a similar conversation with general manager Bruce Allen at the end of the 2013 season. Cousins has discussed with the media his eagerness to prepare and position himself to excel in any opportunity to showcase his skills to future teams. But at the same time, he has been the good soldier and has prepared as if he is the starter, while also supporting Griffin and avoiding expressing any discontent with his situation as a backup.

Cousins this season got the chance to display his skills for future teams when he started the final three games of the year after then-coach Mike Shanahan benched Griffin partly because he wanted to protect him from further injury.

In three games as a starter this season, Cousins completed 53 percent of his passes for 747 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions while also losing two fumbles.
Cousins said after the season finale against the Giants that he felt like in those three games, he believed he had shown his capabilities and indicated that he would welcome the chance to start for a future team, if that opportunity presented itself.

“I’ve shown what I’m capable of,” he said. “I think there’s more there. It obviously would help if I was with a team for a long time and have a chance to really build up a team as their leader, as their quarterback. But we’ll see. Other teams can look at the film and evaluate it how they want.”

Skins Shut RGIII Down For Remainder Of The Season, Kirk Cousins To Start

The Washington Redskins have lead the league in drama over the past couple weeks, and head coach Mike Shanahan will continue the trend with more with a very controversial quarterback move.

 

 

According to ESPN:

Kirk Cousins will replace Robert Griffin III at quarterback Sunday when the Washington Redskins face the Atlanta Falcons.
  Griffin told reporters Wednesday that Mike Shanahan has informed him that he will be shut down for the remainder of the season as the coach "wanted to make sure I got to the offseason free from injury."

Griffin said he wouldn't let the benching "break my spirit" and he vowed to be supportive of Cousins.

"I promise y'all I'll be there for him every step of the way," he said.
Cousins, meanwhile, said that although he was starting now, he still considered the Redskins as Griffin's team.

"Robert is the franchise quarterback here.This is his team," he said. "My job is to help this team get a win."

Cousins took the first-team snaps and Grossman worked with the No. 2 offense in the portion of Wednesday's practice open to the media.

Shanahan raised the possibility Monday of benching Griffin for the last three regular-season games, citing 24 sacks in the past five games and the desire to keep him healthy for the offseason. Griffin's offseason work prior to this season was compromised by the major knee injury he suffered in the team's playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks in January.

A team source on Tuesday said owner Dan Snyder would not intervene if Shanahan decided to make a switch at quarterback.

Cousins was the second quarterback the Redskins took in the 2012 draft, going to Washington in the fourth round after the team took Griffin No. 2 overall. He appeared in three games last season, leading the Redskins to a victory over the Baltimore Ravens after Griffin left with an injury and starting the next week against the Cleveland Browns, another victory. He finished the season with 466 yards on 33-of-48 passing with four touchdowns and three interceptions.
 Cousins has appeared in two games this season, including a mop-up role last Sunday in a blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Shanahan, whose job security has been a topic of widespread scrutiny, said Monday he spoke with Snyder that morning and that if he switched quarterbacks, he'd discuss it first with the owner.

As for Shanahan's future with the Redskins, team sources said Tuesday that everything is "status quo." His status for next season entering last weekend was questionable. It was downgraded to doubtful after an ESPN.com report Sunday detailing his displeasure over the nature of the Griffin-Snyder relationship.

Washington (3-10) was trounced 45-10 by the Chiefs later Sunday, a loss that followed a number of stories in recent weeks discussing the nature of Shanahan's relationship with Griffin as well as that between the second-year quarterback and the coach's son, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.

Shanahan has one year and $7 million left on his contract. The Redskins are 24-37 under Shanahan and clinched their third double-digit loss season in his four years as coach.

I'm telling you now, Shanny is trying to force the front office to fire him. 

The Washington Redskins Could Be Changing Their Name VERY Soon!

Something curious/suspicious is going on with the Washington Redskins … there’s evidence the owner might be caving to pressure to change the name.

Here’s what we know. Redskins owner Dan Snyder lives in Potomac, Maryland, a few doors down from a very rich dude, Aris Mardirossian. Aris, a wealthy patent investor, registered the name, WASHINGTON BRAVEHEARTS on October 17th. According to the Trademark application, obtained by TMZSports, Aris plans to use the name for “Entertainment in the nature of football games.”

Aris also created a company called Washington Brave Hearts, LLC on the same day — Oct. 17th. We’ve also obtained the LLC docs but there are no specifics.

As for the relationship between Aris and Dan, we’re told the 2 of them formed a united front on their block a few years back — both men wanted to cut down trees on their lots but they were being blocked by the county.
Also, we found out both Snyder and Mardirossian attended the University of Maryland … just at different times.

With all the hubbub over the Redskins name, it’s more than curious that a man who has nothing to do with football would suddenly register the name of a football team that would solve his neighbor’s problem.

We’ve made numerous calls to everyone involved, and almost everyone who spoke to us was tight-lipped and would not broach the subject. Aris flat out hung up on us. As for the Redskins, we’ve made multiple calls but so far, no word back.
