The Pro Football Hall of Fame member made an appearance on the Sway In The Morning show, and when Sapp was asked about a rumored $100,000 bet he made with Ross over the Super Bowl, the 7-time Pro Bowler did not mince his words about the MMG leader.

“How many times have you known Ross to lie?” asked Sapp. “Anytime since he been out, when have you known Ross to lie?… The correctional officer part. The whatever else and all the rest of it. Come on man.”

He added, “Ross is messing with how I feed my family. I can’t be associated with known gamblers. I’m sitting on the stage with him because I’m hosting a party he’s coming through. So he’s yelling at me, ‘Yo, Sapp I got some dudes over in Brooklyn. Ima hit them for $100,000.’ I’m like, “Don’t bet that Ross.’ He goes out. TMZ is following him with cameras, so he conjures up a lie.”

NFL Baller Jonathan Dwyer Head-Butted, Punched, And Broke Wife’s Nose B/C She Refused Sex

Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer head-butted his wife and broke her nose after she refused his sexual advances, and punched her in the face the next day, police said Thursday.

 

The details surfaced in a law enforcement report a day after Dwyer was arrested on aggravated assault charges and deactivated from all team activities after he was taken into custody at the Cardinals’ practice facility and headquarters in Tempe. He spent a night in jail and made a brief court appearance before being released on bail early Thursday.

The arrest came at a time when the NFL and its commissioner are under fire over a series of violent off-the-field encounters involving some of the league’s marquee players, including Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson and Greg Hardy.
The NFL has said the Dwyer case will be reviewed under the league’s personal-conduct policy.

More details have emerged regarding the two incidents of domestic violence.
In the first encounter, police say Dwyer attempted to kiss and undress his wife, but she refused. Someone who heard the argument reported the assault to police, who showed up at the apartment but did not make an arrest. Dwyer hid in a bathroom and the wife said she hadn’t been assaulted and denied he was in the home because the running back threatened to kill himself in front of her and their child if she told police about the assault, police said.

The next day, Dwyer punched his wife with a closed fist on the left side of her face, according to police. He also punched walls and threw a shoe at his 17-month-old son, who was not injured, police said.

As his wife tried to call police, Dwyer grabbed her cellphone and threw it down from the home’s second story. Witnesses told police that Dwyer’s wife said, “I’m calling the police” as she held her swollen face and clutched her son.

During his police interview on Wednesday, Dwyer acknowledged hiding in the bathroom when police responded to the first argument and sending a photo of a knife with suicidal threats. Dwyer denied committing an assault, though he acknowledged that he punched walls in his home, threw a phone and that his wife bit his lip during the disputes, according to the police report. As he was released from jail Thursday, he said he never hurt his son.

Arizona Cardinals RB Jonathan Dwyer-- Arrested For Domestic Violence

Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer was arrested Wednesday for domestic violence over an alleged altercation with his wife.

Dwyer was involved in two separate situations in July, according to the Arizona Republic. The victims are listed as a 27-year-old female and an 18-month-old child. Dwyer is married with one child.
 
The two altercations allegedly took place on July 21 and July 22 and Dwyer is facing a total of five charges: one count of aggravated assault causing a fracture, one count of aggravated assault involving a minor, two counts of criminal damage and one count of preventing someone from calling 911.
 
Police actually responded to Dwyer's home after the July 21 incident because Dwyer's neighbors had reported a disturbance. Dwyers wife answer the door that night and conviced police that she had gotten into a verbal dispute with Dwyer and that there was no need for authorities to intervene.
 
The Cardinals reacted quickly to the arrest, the team announced that Dwyer has been deactivated for this week's game against the 49ers.
 
"We became aware of these allegations this afternoon when notified by Phoenix police and are cooperating fully," the team said in a statement. "Given the serious nature of the allegations we have taken the immediate step to deactivate Jonathan from all team activities. We will continue to closely monitor this as it develops and evaluate additional information as it becomes available."
 

The Cardinals running back has carried the ball 16 times for 51 yards and a touchdown through the first two weeks of the season.

 

Dwyer's arrest comes on the same day that the Panthers placed defensive end Greg Hardy on the Exempt/Commissioner's Permission list. Hardy, who's awaiting a jury trial on domestic violence charges, won't be able to participate in any team activities until his legal issues are resolved.
 

The arrest also comes less than 24 hours after the NFL announced that it would be hiring four women to serve as advisers to Roger Goodell to help shape the NFL's stance on domestic violence.
 
"Because domestic violence and sexual assault are broad societal issues, we have engaged leading experts to provide specialized advice and guidance in ensuring that the NFL's programs reflect the most current and effective approaches," Goodell wrote in a memo.
 
Dwyer's arrest comes on the heels of two other notable situations in the NFL.
 
Former Ravens running back Ray Rice was suspended indefinitely on Sept. 8 after TMZ released a video showing Rice punching his wife in an elevator in Atlantic City, N.J. The NFLPA is currently appealing that suspension on Rice's behalf.
 
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is also on indefinite leave. Peterson was indicted on charges of "reckless or negligent injury to a child" in Texas on Sept. 12. On Wednesday, the team announced that Peterson would be placed on the Exempt/Commissioner's Permission list. Nike Puts A Freeze On NFL Star Adrian Peterson’s Endorsement Deal

Nike, hours after pledging its loyalty to accused child abuser Adrian Peterson, announced Wednesday that it was suspending its endorsement deal with the onetime NFL MVP.

The Minnesota Vikings star’s association with the multibillion-dollar global sporting goods business dates back years.

“Nike in no way condones child abuse or domestic violence of any kind and we have shared our concerns with the NFL,” the terse emailed statement said. “We have suspended our contract with Adrian Peterson.”

Only hours earlier, Nike offered its support of the superstar while promising to monitor allegations against Peterson.

It was unclear what caused the sneaker manufacturer to kick Peterson to the curb.

Says A.P.’s lawyer:
“Adrian wants to continue his work in the NFL and contribute to his team and community,” Hardin said. “In order to do so, he is prepared to resolve this matter in the appropriate legal forum rather than the court of public opinion.

“I have spent my entire career asking people to wait until all the facts are in, and I’m doing so again today … Adrian is confident a just result will emerge once all the facts are presented.”

NFL: Vikings Place Peterson On Exempt List, Barred From All Team Activities

The Minnesota Vikings have reversed course on Adrian Peterson, putting him on the NFL's exempt/commissioner's permission list until his child-abuse case is resolved, which bars him from all team activities, the team said in a news release early Wednesday morning.

"After giving the situation additional thought, we have decided this is the appropriate course of action for the organization and for Adrian," Vikings owners Zygi Wilf and Mark Wilf said in the statement. "We are always focused on trying to make the right decision as an organization.

"We embrace our role -- and the responsibilities that go with it -- as a leader in the community, as a business partner and as an organization that can build bridges with our fans and positively impact this great region. We appreciate and value the input we have received from our fans, our partners and the community."

Peterson's agent, Ben Dogra, told The Associated Press that "This is the best possible outcome given the circumstances."

"Adrian understands the gravity of the situation, and this enables him to take care of his personal situation. We fully support Adrian, and he looks forward to watching his teammates and coaches being successful during his absence."

Peterson was indicted last week in Montgomery County, Texas, on a felony count of reckless or negligent injury to a child. The charge stems from a whipping incident that reportedly left bruises and wounds on much of his 4-year-old son.

The running back has said he was disciplining his son the same way his own father disciplined him while growing up in Texas and that he didn't intend to hurt him.
Peterson also was accused in 2013 in Texas of injuring another of his young sons, who has a different mother, although charges were never brought. Those allegations reportedly were filed to the state's Child Protective Services agency, according to Houston CBS affiliate KHOU.

Peterson had been deactivated for the Vikings' Week 2 game against the New England Patriots after the indictment was made public.

Minnesota then reinstated Peterson on Monday, citing concern for due process and the legal proceedings. The Vikings said they had further deliberations with the NFL on Monday and Tuesday, and informed the league they were revisiting the situation.

 

Executives were at the team's Winter Park headquarters late into the night Tuesday, discussing how to respond to the avalanche of criticism of their Monday announcement.
"While we were trying to make a balanced decision yesterday, after further reflection we have concluded that this resolution is best for the Vikings and for Adrian," the Vikings' statement said. "We want to be clear: we have a strong stance regarding the protection and welfare of children, and we want to be sure we get this right. At the same time we want to express our support for Adrian and acknowledge his seven-plus years of outstanding commitment to this organization and this community.

"Adrian emphasized his desire to avoid further distraction to his teammates and coaches while focusing on his current situation; this resolution accomplishes these objectives as well. We will support Adrian during this legal and personal process, but we firmly believe and realize this is the right decision. The tide has turned in the sneaker battle between Nike and Under Armour, as many perceived Durant to be headed to the Maryland-based brand, but Nike has swooped in at the 11th hour of their deadline to offer Durant an unprecedented sneaker contract.

It is being reported that Nike has countered Under Armour’s offer, which is between $265 million and $285 million for the next 10 years. Nike, whose seven-year deal that guaranteed Durant $60 million is expiring, made an initial offer of about $20 million a year that was far from what Durant was looking for. Under Armour’s huge pay for Durant had many believing that Nike would even let him go at that price. While Jay-Z was kicking off his latest Made In America festival in Philadelphia, Nike reached out to Roc Nation Sports to send the offer sheet.

While the numbers haven’t been officially released, it is rumored that Durant should make more — in base and royalties — than the Thunder will pay him over the next two seasons ($41.2 million). According to reports, Nike has a few days to determine if it’ll meet a deal worth nearly $300 million for the NBA superstar.

An interesting two-on-one is shaping up in the basketball sneaker game: Jay-Z and Kevin Durant vs. Nike (NKE). Durant, who is represented by Mr. Z’s Roc Nation, has given Nike until Wednesday to match a 10-year sponsorship offer from Under Armour (UA), according to ESPN. Ray Allen Doesn’t See Home Invasion By Teens As A Prank, Wants Charges Filed

Miami Heat guard Ray Allen and his wife are angry at how police and media reports have characterized what happened at their Coral Gables home early Thursday, when seven 18- and 19-year-olds walked uninvited into their house.

 

In response, the Coral Gables Police Department said it is again discussing the case with the Miami-Dade state attorney’s office and will work with the Allen family “regarding the filing of criminal charges.”

“A serious crime was committed under Florida law,” said Gregory Victor, the Allens’ attorney. “A large number of young adults knowingly broke into Mr. and Mrs. Allen’s locked home on Thursday, Aug. 14, at 2:30 a.m. and absolutely terrified their family. The crime was not only egregious, but the police characterization of this as a silly prank is completely inappropriate. Every family deserves privacy and to feel safe in their own home.”

“The suggestion that anyone can unlawfully enter into someone’s locked home and then into an occupied bedroom in the middle of the night without consequences is unsettling, regardless of the stated or actual reason for such unlawful entry,” said a statement by Allen’s family.

“We are very fortunate that no one involved was physically harmed during this ordeal. Miami is our home and we are proud to be active members in this community. We pray that no one else has to endure this kind of intrusion on their home or their families’ safety. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own homes.”

Coral Gables police spokeswoman Kelly Denham said police did not charge the teenagers with burglary because there was no forced entry, no intent and nothing was taken.

However, under Florida Statute 810.07, “proof of entering of . . . a structure or conveyance at any time stealthily and without consent of the owner or occupant is . . . evidence” of entering with “intent to commit a crime.”

The teenagers, who had been attending a party next door, told police they were curious to see Allen’s home and didn’t believe anyone was inside.

“It’s an ongoing investigation, and we are working with the Allen family and the Miami-Dade state attorney’s office to levy criminal charges of trespassing against the seven individuals that entered the home illegally,” Denham told the Miami Herald on Sunday.
Denham said the department’s “hands were tied with the law.”

“The Coral Gables Police Department stands with the Allen family that no one should enter a home without the permission of a homeowner without consequences,” she said. “We went out to investigate an occupied burglary. Through our investigation we realized the only element of a crime we had was a charge of trespassing.”

Earlier, Gables police said in a statement, “Although the individuals had entered the residence, there was no proof that they had the intent to commit any crimes inside. The Miami-Dade County state attorney’s office advised the detectives that no arrests should be made at that time, in that the elements of a burglary had not been met [and] that the appropriate charge in this case was the crime of trespass in an occupied structure, a misdemeanor.”

So why weren’t the teenagers charged with trespassing?

According to collective-bargaining agreement rules, 50% of an annual salary is the maximum a player can take in the form of an advance.

While the value of Anthony’s advances are unusual, he’s far from the first player to take an annual 50% advance payment. In fact, Knicks swingman J.R. Former NBA No. 1 Overall Pick Greg Oden Arrested After Attacking Ex-Girlfriend (Video)

Lawrence, Indiana police arrested Oden Thursday, August 8, for assaulting his ex-girlfriend he had dated for two years. He’s been charged with one Class A misdemeanor for battery with injury and one Class B misdemeanor for battery.

According to Oden, the contact was accidental.

Oden told police, “Things got out of control and I started to go after the victim. My relative and witness tried to hold me back, but as I swung my arms to move them out of the way, then punched the victim in the face. I was wrong and I know what has to happen.”

A witness claimed Oden punched the female victim in the face.
When an officer arrived on the scene she saw a woman in her mid twenties with “blood, swelling to the nose, lacerations to the forehead and nose area of the victim’s face.”

NBA: Under Armour Reportedly Offered Kevin Durant $30 Million A Year, Will He Leave Nike?

The past couple of years the popularity of Kevin Durant’s shoe line with Nike has grown exponentially coming second only to LeBron James in active players. He may switch things up however as Under Armour has reportedly made him a very lucrative offer.

 

According to a person familiar with negotiations, Durant, whose seven-year, $60 million deal with Nike is expiring, could earn as much as $30 million annually if he signs with Under Armour Inc., whose headquarters are in Durant’s home state of Maryland. Nike and Adidas are also in talks with Durant.

Adidas has been known to throw out some pretty big numbers as well so their offer could rival Under Armour’s. The question is will the leverage cause Nike to up their offer or will they let Durant walk. The other question being raised by some is if he signs with Under Armour, will it affect his free agency decision. Although he still has two more years to go, there’s already reports of him returning to his home state of Maryland and playing with the Washington Wizards, UA happens to be located there as well.

Stephen A. Smith Suspended By ESPN For Domestic Violence Remarks

ESPN is yanking Stephen A. Smith off the air for the comments he made about women and domestic violence last week.

 

The network says Smith will not appear on his show “First Take” or on ESPN Radio for a week. During a discussion last week about Ray Rice’s suspension — Stephen A. said he would tell women to make sure they’re not doing anything “to provoke wrong actions” … in addition to telling men what NOT to do.

This morning on “First Take” Smith apologized — and ESPN released a statment, saying … “We will continue to have constructive dialogue on this important topic. Stephen’s comments last Friday do not reflect our company’s point of view.”

The network continued … “As his apology demonstrates, he recognizes his mistakes and has a deeper appreciation of our company values.”

Smith’s comments also infuriated fellow ESPN anchor Michelle Beadle. She’s yet to react to his suspension.

Smith currently co-hosts a 1 p.m.-3 p.m. program with Ryan Ruocco on 98.7.Smith’s new show will probably air from 1 p.m.-3 p.m., which will put him in direct competition with Ruocco on ESPN 98.7.

The idea of Smith working freestyle in the uncensored world of satellite radio is fascinating. Stephen A. Smith’s Comments On Women “Provoking” Abuse Sparks Outrage From Female Media Peers

This morning on ESPN’s First Take, co-host Stephen A. Smith let loose a poorly-worded rant about how women should do their part to avoid gettin’ their behinds whooped by physically abusive men. It went downhill from there.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time he has made statements like this. In 2012 when Chad Ochocinco was arrested for head-butting Evelyn Lozada Smith opined that, based on Evelyn’s reality-TV personality, perhaps Evelyn had incited Chad to split her head to the white meat.

This line of misogynist thinking set many of Stephen’s fellow female journalists on FIRE.
