Ray Rice got married to make sure his wife can’t testify against him in his trial. The legal term is spousal privilege, but the BSO’s legal team has informed me that in the state of New Jersey spousal privilege does not apply if the crime was committed against your spouse.
That doesn’t mean Rice’s wife Janay Palmer will cooperating with police, but legally she can’t use the fact they are married not to testify.
According to WCVB Boston, his nephew was reportedly riding in a Bentley alongside the Dodge SUV being driven by Benzino and opened fire as the cars made their way through the funeral procession.
Benzino was taken by ambulance to South Shore Hospital with non-fatal injuries shortly following the shooting, while his nephew was later arrested.
“There has been growing family tension between Raymond Scott and Gai Scott,” Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said in a statement.
The funeral was initially delayed due to the incident, however it was eventually held.
The reality TV star was taken to South Shore Hospital, with non-fatal injuries, officials said. The Boston-area native was on his way to his mother’s funeral when the shooting occurred.
Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz said the incident was between two vehicles whose occupants knew each other. The driver of a Bentley shot the driver of a red Dodge SUV (Benzino), who exited his car and was taken to the Duxbury police station by a passerby, Cruz said.
According to local news station WCVB, Benzino was then transported by ambulance to the hospital.
The Bentley driver has been arrested and will be arraigned Monday on a charge of armed assault with intent to murder, Cruz said.

According to ESPN … Rice and Palmer tied the knot Friday in a ceremony that had been planned for a couple of weeks.
We know what you’re thinking — they had a shotgun wedding so she couldn’t be forced to testify against Ray … it’s called spousal privilege, but it won’t apply here.

Now insiders reveal Scandal creator and head writer Shonda Rhimes is not going to stand for it.

A source close to production tells HipHollywood exclusively that the show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes doesn’t “tolerate negative press” and that she “issued him a warning to get his personal issues sorted out.” We are told that if the actor “continues with his violent behavior,” he could get the ax from the show.
According to TMZ Sports, before Young moved into the Studio City home, Omarion rented the home in 2013. Burglars stole over $6,000 dollars of jewelry from Omarion's girlfriend. Police never found the thief but began comparing the two cases after Young was robbed on March 23 in the same home.

After the player was cut from the Eagles, several news outlets reported that the wide receiver was cut due to his alleged ties with gang members. In a statement posted on his Facebook page, the player denies any gang activity and thanks the coaches for his time with the team.

Jackson's spokeswoman Denise White told reporters that six NFL teams have already reached out to the player.
"He's like, 'I'm ready for my next team. I want to go in there, show them I am the Pro Bowl player that I am and give them 110%,' " White said. There are reports one of the group’s bodyguards was shot in the leg and hospitalized, but Migos’ manager tells us no one in their van was injured.

Kanye West slinked into a police station for less than an hour Thursday ... when no one was looking.
Kanye was booked in connection with his misdemeanor battery case ... for beating on a photog at LAX. He pled no contest earlier this month and was required to turn himself in for booking.
So Kanye -- and his crafty lawyer -- chose yesterday at 4:30 PM. He went to the Hollywood LAPD station and got his mug shot taken and then got fingerprinted. It took a grand total of 49 minutes and he was out.
Kanye has to keep his nose clean for 2 years and also has to attend 24 private therapy sessions for anger management.

Rice was arrested and charged with simple assault-domestic violence on Feb. 15 after a physical altercation with his fiancée, Janay Palmer, at the Revel Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J. Palmer also was charged with simple assault.
Conviction of a third-degree crime in New Jersey carries a potential prison sentence of at least three years and up to five years, and a fine that could be up to $15,000.
A video obtained and posted online by TMZ showed Rice lifting Palmer by her arms out of an elevator and laying her on the floor. Rice’s attorney, Michael Diamondstein, has said the footage is authentic but incomplete.
“I have been advised by the prosecutor’s office that an indictment has been returned,” Diamondstein told ESPN on Thursday afternoon. “And again, we deny that he committed an aggravated assault. We don’t think the law would support that [he did]. And we just ask the public to reserve judgment until all of the facts are out.”
The Ravens released a statement Thursday that read: “This is part of the due process for Ray. We know there is more to Ray Rice than this one incident.”
Rice, 27, signed a five-year, $35 million contract with the Ravens before the 2012 season. He is coming off his worst season, rushing for only 660 yards and averaging a career-low 3.1 yards per carry.
Cube is currently in talks with MGM studios to reprise his starring role as shop owner “Calvin”, as well as produce the third film in the series. The first two Barbershop movies, which take place in the Southside of Chicago, see “Calvin” and his employees emerge the victors over loan sharks and gentrification. No plot details for the third film have been revealed as of yet and there’s still the matter of a writer and director for the project.
After the success of the previous films and the on-going Jump Street franchise, in which Ice Cube also stars, you can expect the studio to have some deep pockets to sign Cube on for a third go around. Rumor has it that the studio is always looking to bring back Cedric The Entertainer and Queen Latifah who were both key to the laugh factor of the first two films.
Personally, I’m less concerned with the plot, and more interested in what types of arguments will get the characters worked up for a good old fashioned slander-fest. After all, that’s the best part of kicking it at the barbershop whether it be in real life or in theaters.
While “Barbershop 3″ is still in the very early stages, Cube is producing the upcoming N.W.A. bio-pic Straight Outta Compton, and will begin production on the sequel to Ride Along co-starring Kevin Hart. Released back in January, the first Ride Along film grossed $146 Million worldwide on a $25 million budget. Production on both the aforementioned projects will begin this summer, while 23 Jump Street is set to arrive in theaters June 13th.
50 Cent has gotten a partial victory in a lawsuit brought against a DJ who ran hip-hop website WorldStarHipHop.com. The main controversy in the lawsuit had to do with the website’s masthead featuring an image of the rapper.
In a ruling on Monday, a federal judge granted the hip-hop star summary judgment on copyright and right of publicity claims. In doing so, the judge rejected affirmative defenses including fair use. According to the ruling, “Defendants provide no authority to support the fair use of a celebrity’s image or likeness.
This is not surprising, as a celebrity’s image, standing alone, only evokes that celebrity’s persona. Jackson’s image does not, by itself, describe anything about Defendants’ website.” The entire cliffnotes of the case are available for public consumption here.
We called Keef’s people to determine the extent of the rapper’s involvement — his lawyer tells us Keef wasn’t the shooter … he just happened to be present when shots were fired.
The Northfield PD says the shooting victim is in ICU.
The rapper really knows how to implicate himself in a crime — on Monday, Keef plastered his Instagram page with photos of guns, including an AK-47, and the photos appear to serve as a warning. Keef wrote the captions, “Another situation. Already.”

On her talk show Monday, Williams was going through her “Hot Topics” segment and there turned out to be a few Hollywood pregnancy announcements, including Lozada giving birth to a new baby boy with her fiance, L.A. Dodger Carl Crawford (who is worth $142 million).
“I didn’t mean to make that cash register joke, but you see why it’s easy to be said,” Williams said. (Okay, girl.) She then proceeded to give her advice, saying she should lose the number to her “Basketball Wives” friends and get involved with charity work.

Turns out that’s $514,000 worth of Hennessy brand Cognac, according to the Baltimore County Police (or about $22 per bottle). That figure comes from the victim, which would be F.P. Winner LTD., according to the address of the theft. (A call to F.P. Winner’s warehouse manager went unreturned).
Yesterday at 10:45 a.m. officers with the Regional Auto Theft Team (RATT—cute, eh?) recovered the truck—a 2001 Freightliner with a yellow cargo container marked MSC—in Baltimore City at the corner of Monroe and Mulberry Streets.
No cognac was found.
A Baltimore County police spokesman, Corporal John Wacher, says he has not heard of another theft like it in his 19 years as a cop. “It’s probably the highest dollar amount of liquor [stolen] during my career.”
Moving 2100 cases of cognac would appear to be a job for a serious criminal with serious connections.
Wacher says the county police and the RATT team are still on the case. No staties; no feds. “We have a theft investigation; all the property has not been recovered.”
No word yet on whether the bottles were already tax-stamped by the state of Maryland.
F.P. Winner and a related company, Winner Distributing, were bought out (whole or in part) in February by Mitchell Distributing, a Mississippi-based Anheuser-Busch wholesaler, according to a Sun story, which said “it plans to operate both Winner and F.P. Winner from a single warehouse instead of two separate facilities.”
