Although many of us saw the writing on the wall a long time ago, the Jordan sneaker-wearin’, gay rights rapper, Macklemore swiped all the Grammy’s in the rap category from who most consider the rightful winner, Kendrick Lamar.
Prior to the show, Macklemore posted a screenshot of a text convo he shared with the good kid on Twitter.
Apparently after the show (and an OUTSTANDING performance from Kendrick) the Seattle “rapper” felt remorse over the fact that he had taken something so valuable away from the Compton spitter and send him another text.
Hours after racking up four Grammy Awards, Hot 97 called Macklemore this morning to speak on his wins and Kendrick Lamar’s snub.
Kendrick Lamar is up for 7 Grammys at Sunday’s ceremony including Album Of The Year for good kid, M.A.A.D city and he’s obviously excited about it. The TDE leader will be also taking the stage to perform with Imagine Dragons which should be a treat for the audience. He recently chatted with The Hollywood Reporter about his Grammy nominations, plans for next album, being inspired from Kanye, ‘Control’ verse and more.On ‘Control’ verse:“It wasn’t pre-meditated, it just came to me when I was writing that bar. The crazy part is, I didn’t think it would ever go to where diss records were coming at me. I thought people would be like… he threw some challenges out there… that was dope.”On touring with Kanye and being creative:“Kanye taught me to never to downplay your ideas,” adds Lamar. “I learned to always stay as creative as possible and never have any boundaries. Those things that people called ‘rants’ on-stage are real conversations that we had behind closed doors — about business and how when you get to a certain level people won’t want to see you break through because they only see you as a rapper.”Watch the video interview below.
Various media outlets have suggested Drizzy’s bars go directly at K. Dot’s head.
Earlier today Future’s tour DJ, Esco, dropped the remix to “Sh!t” featuring Drake and Juicy J. While Drake doesn’t address Kendrick Lamar directly, Internet consensus is that the Toronto rapper takes aim at Compton’s finest in his opening verse: “And if a n*gga say my name, he the hot sh*t /But if I say that n*gga name he still the hot sh*t /F*cked up, lucky I don’t feed into the gossip /N*ggas act like they don’t know but they should know /Yeah, I just think it’s funny how they danglin’ the bait /But I’m the one whose killin’ n*ggas on the hooks though” (Complex)
Following the song’s release, Kendrick’s Top Dawg Entertainment CEO Anthony Tiffith responded via Twitter.
“If this is the best sh*t n*ggas got… I feel sorry 4 em…lmao #TDE,” Top Dawg tweeted December 17.

Last month, Lamar said he had no real gripes with Drake and felt the Toronto native was very necessary for the new wave in music.
“I was having fun, rapping, man,” K. Dot replied when asked if he took shots at Drake during his TDE cypher. “Yeah. Nah, we we just having fun, you feel what I’m saying? Hip-hop is a sport and people are going to dissect lyrics and that’s what it’s about at the end of the day. I got nothing against Drake. He put out a great album, again, he’s doing his thing. He’s a part of this new generation that’s doing this music, you feel me?” (“The Breakfast Club”)
Blank Stare…really? Did he tell Kendrick that he speaks so well and that he is really clean too?
The writer also spends a lot of time talking about the gang violence endemic in Kendrick’s hometown of Compton. Kendrick is a bright spot in that story of a community in pain and anguish…why harp on the negative?
Kendrick and his camp are disgusted about this! They feel Marsh focused on the wrong details, senselessly romanticizing a dark time in hip hop, when the article should have been a celebration of Kendrick’s successes not a rehashing of other artists and their choices or careers and pretending as though every single artist in Hip Hop is supposed to be the exact same.
The CEO of Kendrick’s label Top Dawg Entertainment Anthony Tiffith told TMZ,
“The interview portrayed him and his company in a negative light and he won’t stand for it. To say he was ‘surprised at our discipline’ is completely disrespectful … Kendrick deserved to be accurately documented. The racial overtones immediately reminded everyone of a time in hip-hop that was destroyed by violence, resulting in the loss of two of our biggest stars [Tupac and B.I.G.] … As a result of this misrepresentation, I pulled Kendrick from his performance at GQ’s annual Man Of The Year party. While we think it’s a tremendous honor to be named as one of the Men Of The Year, these lazy comparisons and offensive suggestions are something we won’t tolerate.”
Jackson responded to Kendrick Lamar’s lyric “Even if Phil Jackson come back, still no coaching me” on his personal Twitter account the following day (August 13th):
“@kendricklamar it’s okay to be cocky and sure, but we all need somebody to lean on. Let’s just call it mentoring.,”
According to the legendary coach it was a mixture of being lonely and the instigation of people on Twitter to not let Kendrick say that without being responded to that prompted the tweet:
[Twitter's] where you can communicate with people that are completely out of your, you know, your range of influence and your social grouping. But the connection between basketball and rap is so deep that many of the people that tweet back and forth to me were saying, ‘You gotta come back at Lamar after he gives you this [line.]‘ I read the mentions on that, I was in a down phase in Montana, obviously, and I was looking for some social communication and so I threw that out there and of course, that was a hot line to get a buzz.
